Arthur F. Bell, Jr., CPA : Founder and former managing member, Arthur Bell CPAs

In the 1970s, Art was the chief financial officer for Kirk Silver, a prominent silver manufacturing company. Art quickly established the successful hedging activities of the company, and as a result the company generated more income from trading than manufacturing. Eventually Art began to consult on various accounting matters dealing with commodities as he went out on his own to work with some of the earliest commodity trading advisors (CTAs) and commodity pool operators (CPOs), including Campbell & Company, LP. He founded Arthur Bell CPAs in 1974 and has since provided accounting, advisory, and family office services to the alternative investment industry. He served as the managing member until 2016 when he became Chairman. In 2017, Arthur Bell CPAs merged with Cohen & Company to provide specialized accounting services to the overall investment industry. Art now continues to service certain long-standing clients.

Art’s career has been significantly aligned with the alternative investment community. He was involved with the formation of the Managed Funds Association (MFA), the industry’s leading trade organization, and served on the MFA Board of Directors as a Director, Treasurer and member of the MFA Executive Committee. He also worked with the government in the formation of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and later with the National Futures Association. Art was a member of the CFTC's Global Markets Advisory Committee, the Futures Industry Association Editorial Advisory Board and the Alternative Investment Management Association in London. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Art is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and a licensed CPA in Maryland. He is also on the Board of Directors of The Hippodrome Foundation, the Board of Trustees for Stevenson University, and the Board of Directors of the National Corvette Museum’s Motor Sports Park. When Art is out of the office, he can usually be found on the racetrack with his Corvette racecar or traveling with family and friends.
